Compared to the worthless expansions so often pumped out by Bethesda and BioWare it’s still vastly superior in terms of invention and value for money. Outside of the boss battles, and the first panicked encounters with other new enemies, the game does lack some of the pace and fire of the previous add-ons. The one who can only be injured if you have your back to him is particularly inspired, while the building-sized new raid boss is the perfect challenge for a full team of co-op players. As you might imagine a lot of them involve tracking down one particularly dangerous new animal or another, and this results in some of the game’s best boss battles so far. The add-on does well in terms of side quests, in fact their number and variety is presumably why the story campaign is a bit on the short side. It’s the witch doctor that’s the most dangerous new foe though, not because of his own attacks but because he’s able to level up his allies and yet requires an enormous quantity of hot lead to bring down.
To fit the new landscapes there are also a number of new forms of wildlife, including the giant Borok and the scorpion-like Scaylion.
